Women
The Women’s Golf Group (“WGG”) at the Townsville Golf Club has an active female membership, the majority of whom play golf at least once a week or more.
The WGG has designated golf games on Wednesdays and Saturdays and are able to play medley golf throughout the week. The timesheet on Wednesdays allows for women with commitments to find a suitable time to in the competition.
The WGG’s role is to foster golf for women and junior girls in the greater Townsville community. The WGG provides a friendly and inviting atmosphere for all women wanting to play and learn to play golf.
The WGG runs many social activities for the club, such as the very popular Bring and Buy day, and fundraising events, such Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. The social aspects of the game are always important and at the fore and visitors and new members are welcomed with open arms.
The WGG organises players to compete at other club Open Championships and in district pennants.
Beginners who reach full membership stage are taken under the wing on one or two WGG members who assist them to settle into the club.
To assist women’s membership the club runs two programs:
- Get Into Golf clinics for women who are new to golf and looking to get into the game. This short program is run by a PGA Professional and includes tuition, a social game plus drinks.
- A quarterly I-GIGL competition for women which includes drinks and lunch.
The best part is that both are completely relaxed, lots of fun, and a new way to meet friends. They are also not intimidating as participants are learning the game around people all starting out at the same level.
Both programs are heavily supported by the WGG and Participants from these programs are eligible to nominate for the “Ladies Golf Promotion “ membership.
